Thank you for this picture. I know there was a line in the episode “The Doctor’s Wife” where she asks him what the sign on the door says and he says “pull to open” and she asks what he does and he says “I push.” and I’ve always been annoyed by that! Because the “pull to open” is on the door on the outside. (The door that would hold the phone in an actual police box.)
The point of a police box was that an ordinary citizen could do a citizen’s arrest by putting the criminal person inside the box (which had no handle on the inside to open the door) and then use the phone on the outside to call the police. Then, you’d turn on the blue light (on the top) to tell the police which box the criminal was in.
